How Can I Know God?
More Than Believing About God
Many people believe God exists — but believing about Him isn’t the same as knowing Him personally. God isn’t distant or unreachable; He created you to enjoy a real relationship with Him.
From the earliest pages of Scripture, God’s desire has been clear — to dwell with His people. Even when we turned away, His plan was to make a way back. That’s why Jesus came: to bridge the gap between a holy God and a broken world.
The Way Back to Relationship
Jesus once said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). Through His death and resurrection, Jesus took our place and removed the barrier sin created.
Knowing God isn’t about religious effort. It’s about relationship — a heart-level trust that says, “I believe Jesus is who He says He is, and I’m ready to follow Him.” The Bible explains that we’re saved “by grace through faith” (Ephesians 2:8). Grace means it’s all a gift from God. Faith means choosing to receive it.
When you turn to Jesus, your past is forgiven, your life is made new, and your eternity is secure. You begin a relationship that grows stronger day by day as you get to know Him.
How You Can Begin
You don’t need the perfect words or a church ceremony to begin — just an honest heart before God. You can start with a simple prayer like this:
“God, I know I’ve sinned and can’t fix it on my own. I believe Jesus died and rose again to give me life. I trust in Him today and ask for Your forgiveness. Come into my life and guide me from this day forward. Amen.”
If you prayed that prayer or have questions about what it means to follow Jesus, we’d love to talk with you.
At Buckingham Baptist Church, our greatest joy is helping people begin and grow in their relationship with God.
